Chato Zonal Referral Hospital construction Project started its implementation in September, 2017. A foundation stone for the construction of Chato Zonal Referral Hospital was laid by the President of Mozambique H.E. Fillipe Nyusi on the 11th day of January, 2020, whereby the ceremony was graced by the late President of the United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Dr. John Pombe Joseph Magufuli.

Projected to serve approximately 700 to 1000 patients per day (OPD) with bed capacity of 800 to 1000 beds. The hospital area has a total of 248 hectares and currently only 18 hectares has been used or/else occupied with the ongoing construction hence remaining with the total of 230 hectares unused. The Hospital is projected to serve an estimated total population of about 8 million people of the catchment areas in 4 regions namely; Kigoma, Kagera, Geita and part of Shinyanga region and the near by countries namely Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi and (DRC) Congo.

While the hospital construction and equipping of high tech medical equipment is ongoing, the hospital has since 30th July, 2021 of commencement of services managed to serve a total of 2,500 patients inclusive of the insured patients and none-insured (cash) patients and the number of patients is aggressively increasing expected to rise more and more after fully installation and commissioning of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Services, Emergency Department (EMD) Services and the Radiology Services.
